The tech in the Vegas Sphere is insane.
The biggest screen ever built.
20 times bigger than an IMAX.
But get this, the screen is actually the least impressive part of the whole thing.
Because the most impressive part is the audio.
This is going to blow your mind.
The Sphere has 167,000 speakers hidden behind the screen.
That's 8 dedicated speakers per person.
And this is the wild part.
They built a system that can customize sound for every individual seat.
That means they could play audio in multiple languages at the same time for different parts of the venue.
You hear the concert in Spanish, I hear the concert in English at the same time, which is insane.
And they do this using the same engineering as noise-canceling headphones.
Now, don't get me wrong, the visuals are also crazy.
But it's not just the screen that makes them magical.
It's the camera.
The Sphere is so huge and curved, they had to invent the world's most powerful video camera just to film for it.
This was their first attempt, 11 cinema cameras welded together, but it was way too hard to sync up and edit.
So, instead, they invented this, the Big Sky.
Shoots in 18K.
The footage is so big, one second takes up 60 gigabytes of storage.
That means 4 seconds fills up your iPhone.
They even had to build a secret Mini Sphere in California, that's one-fourth the size, just to test how the visuals would look.
It's pretty nuts.
Now the second Sphere is set to begin construction in Abu Dhabi next year, and I bet we'll see 10 of these by 2035.
The question is, who's going to be the first artist to run the Sphere-only world tour?
The tech in the Vegas Sphere is mindblowing...
And it turns out, the screen (biggest ever created), is the least impressive part of the venue.
The most impressive part, is the audio...it’s the most advanced sound system ever built.
Inside the Sphere, there are 167,000 speakers hidden behind the screen.
That’s 8 speakers per person.
And this allows them to use Beam Forming technology to produce custom sound for each seat.
This means they could play music in English for one section and music in Spanish for another section at the same time.
Completely personalized sound...pretty nuts!
The other thing that blew me away was the visuals.
Not the screen specifically, moreso the camera.
Turns out, the Sphere is so massive with such an extreme curvature, they had to invent the world’s most powerful video camera just to film for it.
They call it, The Big Sky.
It has a 165 degree field of view and shoots in 18K.
1 second of footage takes up 60GB of storage.
They even had to build a secret mini sphere in California just to have somewhere to test how footage would look before it went into production.
Overall, the project cost $2.3B and zero expense was spared.
The second Sphere is under contract for Abu Dhabi and set to begin next year...I bet we see 10 of these by 2035.
Also, shoutout to YouTube channels Megabuilds and Jacob Owen for making these insane visuals.
I love finding cool tech/AI and helping share it to others. If you want me to make a video about your product/experience, drop me a message.
If you run a tech company and want to teach your team how to make videos like me, I put together a free guide breaking down how I do it. Comment “viral” and I’ll send it.
