Roughly a million people are attending the 2024 US Open in New York, but roughly 15 million fans like me follow the tournament on the US Open app and their website, and there is a lot of action to follow, two weeks, 22 courts, hundreds of matches, so to make it easier to keep up, IBM and the United States Tennis Association, partnered to create this, it's a match report, and they make them for every single match, hundreds of them, they do it with AI, specifically IBM's Watson X.
First they trained foundation models like IBM Granet to understand the language of the US Open so they can translate the roughly 10,000 data points from each match into written summaries, and what's even cooler is that IBM publishes the data sources that were used to train Granet, which is really important, good AI starts with good data, and once the models are trained, they can also use them to create AI commentary or likelihood to win, so the USDA editorial team can produce more of the content that tennis fans love, if you want to learn more about it go to ibm.com/usopen.
